Run for the Son 2004

The cross is the symbol of our salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Christian Motorcyclists' Association represents motorcyclists from many different Christian denominations and walks of life. Through this event, which takes place on the weekend of 19/20th June, we want to make a difference, by supporting the work of four Christian charities.

Matthew chapter 16, verse 24:
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

Last year's Run for the Son raised a total of £5,725 for our four charities; The Lighthouse foundation, The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, Motorcycles for Africa, and the Christian Motorcyclists' Association.

For the Run for the Son 2004 the mix of charities is different, and the format of the run is new, but the purpose of the Run is the same; to encourage everyone in the CMA to get out on their bikes during this mid-summer weekend both as a witness, and to raise money for out Christian Charities.

The Lighthouse Foundation

The Lighthouse Foundation, based in Widnes, and established in 1997, works in the front line both to combat and prevent drug abuse. It operates a drugs housing unit, and a multimedia presentation used in schools and colleges.

The drug rehabilitation programme, "An Apprenticeship for Life" works through a supported drugs housing unit. The unit houses four young people at a time, supporting them as they come off drugs, all the way through to being able to live independent drug-free lives. The programme teaches individual how to live without drugs and become positive and productive members of society.

Drug eduction using a high-tech multimedia presentation called "A Chemical Generation" is adapted to meet the requirements of the audience group. This presentation is used in schools, and colleges, and with community groups, business and voluntary organisations. The message is hard-hitting and balanced, giving an informed insight into the dangers of drugs in our society. It uses real life testimonies telling how lives have been transformed, following the results of addiction on individual and family lives.

The director of The Lighthouse Foundation, David Tierney, has first hand experience of drug addiction and how it brought him to total despair, before his life was rescued and changed. Now, the ethos of the Foundation is: "A brighter future for hurting lives".

Tear Fund

TEAR fund has progressed from its roots in the 1960s into a major charity involved in Christian action with the world's poor. The Bible and historic evangelical understanding of its central truths remain the foundation of TEAR Fund's work.

TEAR Fund is committed to working with, and on behalf of, the poor to address the underlying causes of poverty by influencing the decisions of governments, companies, groups and individuals whose policies affect the poor.

The charity is also involved in disaster response, community development, advocacy, and enterprise development. TEAR Fund encourages its supporters to pray and campaign to make a real difference.

YWAM Sweden

Youth with a Mission (YWAM) is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus Christ personally to this generation.

Anneke and Phil Taylor, both former CMA (UK) members, joined YWAM in Sweden from Bible College, about eight years ago. God led them to buy a smallholding in Lappland in the north of Sweden. The Church in the north of Sweden is dying, and there is major reconcilliation work to do between the Swedes and the indigenous Saami people. Anneke and Phil want tov bring hope to a forgotten country.

The vision is to see young people standing up for Christ, seeing that they can make a difference. The training is a nine month Wilderness Discipleship Training School; Bible teaching and outdoor living. The last three months of the school is spent on outreach to the few. Anywhere from Tibet, Siberia, Mongolia,to Alaska. The target is the few, they have the right to hear the gospel as well. Every YWAM work has to raise its own support, so Anneke and Phil live totally by faith.

Christian Motorcyclists' Association

CMA (UK) is a home based missionary organisation which aims to be involved in every aspect of the biking world. CMA members are involved in many kinds of ministries, such as prison visits, youth work, and reaching motorcyclists for Christ.
